''The Recorder'' is an American daily newspaper published Monday through Saturday mornings in Greenfield, Massachusetts, covering all of Franklin County, Massachusetts. It is owned by Newspapers of New England, which also owns its neighbor to the south, the ''Daily Hampshire Gazette'' of Northampton, Massachusetts. As the Greenfield area's only newspaper of record, ''The Recorder'' is the primary source of local news in Franklin County.〔(Recorder 2006 Rate Card ), accessed January 27, 2007.〕 == In popular culture == In the extended cut of John Hodgman's Netflix comedy special ''John Hodgman: Ragnarok'' (2013), there is a scene where Hodgman calls Greenfield, Massachusetts "a shit-hole." In December 21, 2013, the newspaper published his apology to the town.
